How Did Pound Cake Get Its Name?

If you're anything like me, you just eat the treat in front of you and don't think much about its name. But, there are some foods out there that have truly bizarre names and interesting origin stories. One of them being pound cake!

Pound cake is called pound cake because early recipes of dessert called for one pound of butter, one pound of eggs, and one pound of sugar! Pound cake was first made in England in the 1700s.
