Apple, Cheddar, and Maple Bacon Grilled Cheese

Ingredients:

- 2 slices sourdough bread

- 2-3 slices of sharp white cheddar cheese

- 4-6 thin slices of apple (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work nicely)

- 2-3 slices of maple bacon

- Butter

Directions:

  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place the bacon slices in the skillet and cook until they are crispy and browned, turning as needed. This should take about 5-7 minutes. Once cooked, transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess grease.

  2. Lay out one slice of bread on a clean surface. Layer slices of sharp cheddar cheese on top of the bread. Add the cooked maple bacon on top of the cheese. Arrange the thin apple slices evenly over the bacon. Place another layer of sharp cheddar cheese on top of the apples. Finish with the second slice of bread on top, creating a sandwich.

  3. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-low heat.

  4. Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of the sandwich. Place the sandwich, buttered side down, in the skillet or on the griddle. Spread a thin layer of butter on the top slice of bread.

  5. Cook the sandwich for 3-4 minutes on each size, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.

  6. Serve immediately.
