Apple Crumble

Ingredients:

For the apple filling:

- 4-5 medium sized apples, peeled, cored and sliced

- 1/4 cup granulated sugar

- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

- 1 tablespoon lemon juice

- 1 tablespoon cornstarch

For crumble topping:

- 1 cup rolled oats

- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar

- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold, and cut into small cubes

- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

- 1/4 teaspoon salt

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and lemon juice. Toss everything together until the apples are well coated. Sprinkle the cornstarch over the apple mixture and toss to combine.

  3. Transfer the apple mixture into a greased 8x8-inch (20x20 cm) baking dish or a similar-sized oven-safe dish.

  4. In another mixing bowl, prepare the crumble topping. Combine the rolled oats, all-purpose flour, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt. Mix everything together.

  5. Add the cold cubed butter to the dry mixture. Use a pastry cutter, fork, or your fingertips to work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  6. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apple mixture in the baking dish.

  7. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes or until the topping is golden brown, and the apple filling is bubbling.

  8. Remove the apple crumble from the oven and allow it to cool slightly before serving. Top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
