New Yorkers, get ready to experience a French culinary affair without crossing the Atlantic! Hellmann’s is turning up the flavor in the Big Apple with a pop-up that’s sure to delight. On July 31, the iconic mayonnaise brand is teaming up with the Little Prince bistro to launch Le Café Hellmann’s, a one-day-only event celebrating French fries in true Parisian style.
You might recall the memorable scene from Pulp Fiction where Vincent Vega, played by John Travolta, muses about European differences. He famously comments on how in Amsterdam you can sip beer at movie theaters and in Paris, you can grab a beer at McDonald’s. But the real kicker? The Dutch, Belgians, and French indulge their fries in mayonnaise rather than ketchup, a concept that, as Vega puts it, they “freaking drown them in.”
Turns out, Vincent Vega was onto something. A survey of 2,000 Americans reveals that 34% of us secretly savor mayo-dipped fries but shy away from showing it off. Hellmann’s, however, wants to change that. This summer, as Paris prepares for the Olympics and Emily in Paris returns to Netflix, Hellmann’s is bringing a slice of Parisian dining to NYC with their ultra-exclusive pop-up.
Le Café Hellmann’s will be serving just one dish, but oh, what a dish it will be. Expect to find perfectly crispy French fries paired with your choice of Hellmann’s classic mayo, Garlic Aioli, or Plant-Based Mayonnaise. For those who can’t choose, why not sample all three?
Chris Symmes, Hellmann’s Head of Marketing for Dressings and Condiments at Unilever North America, says, “With Paris on our minds this summer, we’re excited to celebrate the crème de la crème of French fry condiment pairings and treat fans to a unique experience to eat French fries the French way. We hope Le Café Hellmann’s transports guests to France, even if for a moment, to enjoy the delicious pairing of mayonnaise and French fries.”
But that's not all. Guests will be serenaded by live accordion music, sip on Kir Royale cocktails and mocktails, and, if you’re among the first 300, you’ll walk away with your very own Hellmann’s beret. How’s that for a taste of Paris?
Seating is first-come, first-served from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on July 31. If you happen to be named Emily, show your ID and you’ll be granted entry to a special VIP area. After 6:30 p.m., the pop-up will transform back into Little Prince, but who knows? Next time you visit, you might still be served a side of mayo with your fries!
Mark your calendar, grab your berets, and get ready to savor a uniquely French twist on a classic American favorite!
