How Did Devil’s Food Cake Get Its Name?

It's National Devil's Food Cake Day, and we're here to answer the important questions regarding this favorite dessert: how did it get its name and how does it differ from regular chocolate cake?

Devil's Food cake.

There are several theories about where the name devil's food cake came from. "One, it's the decadent counterpart to angel food cake. Two, it's sinfully delicious. Finally, devil's food cake came about during a time when food that was spicy, rich, or dark was described as deviled, like deviled ham and deviled eggs" states the Chef's Corner Store website. One thing that is known for sure: everyone loves devil's food cake! But, is it really all that different from regular chocolate cake?

Devil's food cake has more baking soda than chocolate cake, which raises the pH level, making the cake richer, darker, and fluffier.

It wouldn't be National Devil's Food Cake day without a indulgent slice of the rich and chocolately dessert. This recipe takes less than two hours and results in a sinfully moist and rich cake.
