This delightful confection combines the rich flavors of dark chocolate, the coolness of white chocolate, and the refreshing zing of peppermint. Simple to make yet impressive to present, this Peppermint Bark recipe is a perfect addition to your holiday repertoire.

Peppermint Bark

Ingredients:

  • Dark Chocolate: 12 ounces high-quality dark chocolate, chopped

  • White Chocolate: 12 ounces high-quality white chocolate, chopped

  • Peppermint Extract: 1/2 teaspoon pure peppermint extract

  • Peppermint Candy Canes: 4 regular-sized candy canes, crushed

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Your Pan: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, ensuring it covers the entire surface. This will make it easier to remove and break the bark into pieces later.

  2. Melt the Dark Chocolate: In a heatproof bowl, melt the dark chocolate using a double boiler or in short bursts in the microwave, stirring regularly. Once melted, stir in half of the peppermint extract.

  3. Spread the Dark Chocolate: Pour the melted dark chocolate onto the prepared baking sheet and spread it into an even layer using a spatula.

  4. Chill in the Refrigerator: Place the dark chocolate layer in the refrigerator for about 15-20 minutes or until it sets.

  5. Melt the White Chocolate: While the dark chocolate layer is setting, melt the white chocolate in the same manner as the dark chocolate. Stir in the remaining peppermint extract.

  6. Layer with White Chocolate: Remove the baking sheet from the refrigerator and pour the melted white chocolate over the dark chocolate layer. Quickly spread it evenly.

  7. Crush Candy: Grab a resealable plastic bag and place the peppermint candies or candy canes inside—whichever you chose to purchase. Utilize the back of a wooden spoon to crush the peppermint into small pieces, and then set the bag aside.

  8. Sprinkle with Crushed Candy Canes: Sprinkle the crushed candy canes over the white chocolate layer before it sets. Gently press the candy cane pieces into the white chocolate to ensure they adhere.

  9. Chill Again: Return the baking sheet to the refrigerator and let the Peppermint Bark set completely. This will take approximately 1-2 hours.

  10. Break into Pieces: Once fully set, remove the bark from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature for a few minutes. Use a knife or your hands to break it into rustic pieces.

Homemade Peppermint Bark is not just a treat for your taste buds; it's a feast for the eyes and a beautiful addition to any holiday dessert table. With its perfect balance of rich chocolate and cool peppermint, this festive delight is sure to become a cherished tradition in your home. Share the sweetness of the season with family and friends, and indulge in the joy that comes with creating delicious memories together. Happy holidays!
