Q & A With Greg Brown of V-Licious BBQ. In addition to making the "best damn ribs you've ever tasted!", Greg creates award-winning dry BBQ rubs under the brand Placid Rib Rub.

Q. What is your passion? Tell us about it.

A. I have a passion for BBQ. I'm a three time winner of Best Ribs in the East with my team V-Licious BBQ.


Q. What inspired you to pursue this passion? Tell us the story.

A. I've always been a foodie and have loved cooking, but I really got into BBQ during college. A friend of mine bought a smoker as a freshmen and we started with the basics and slowly perfected our recipes over time. We first got into competitive BBQ when we were in college and we won the ribs category in the Junior BBQ World Championships in our second year. After that we've just been tweaking our recipes and getting more consistent at churning out the best baby back ribs ever time we cook.


Q. What makes your product unique?

A. What makes our ribs so good is the balance. A little sweetness, a little heat and a perfect blend of salty savory bbq spices. We don't use a sticky sweet bbq sauce like most other people. Instead when we wrap our ribs we add honey and apple juice. The honey melts and mixes with the pork fat for a perfect sweet and rich glaze.


Q. Tell us about your creative process.

A. These days it's more about perfecting the recipe we have and learning how to make them in bulk without sacrificing quality. Because every rack of ribs is a little different there is a real art to cooking them perfectly.


Q. Who is your audience? How do you engage them?

A. I'm working on publishing more recipes online and showcasing different dishes that use my rub on our Instagram.

Q. What experience do your products create? What can recipients expect?

A. The best damn ribs you've ever tasted!

Q. Where can your products be found?

A. This year we will only be competing in one competition. The I Love BBQ Festival in Lake Placid, NY. But, our dry rub is available on Amazon. It's called Placid Rib Rub.


Q. What is next?

A. Working on more recipes. I only like to post them online once they are tried and true and I know they are the best they can be.
