If you’re a fan of bouncy, chewy textures, you need to meet stretchy yogurt. Imagine your favorite creamy yogurt…with the elasticity of mochi. That’s exactly what this sticky, stringy snack delivers.

The trend started in China and has since popped up in Jakarta, Singapore, Ontario—and now, New York City. TikTok and Instagram are full of videos showing the yogurt’s mesmerizing stretch, topped with piles of fresh fruit, popping boba, and chewy jellies. Watching a spoon lift a glistening mound of yogurt is oddly satisfying—you might catch yourself leaning in a little closer.
In NYC, head to Flushing, Queens, for Mamie’s Yogurt, where the chewy treat is served in a variety of flavors like thick milk, mango, lychee, peach, five-grain, and even spirulina. From there, you can pile on toppings like cantaloupe, watermelon, grapes, dragon fruit, and strawberries, or go wild with black sesame, cubed coconut jellies, and popping boba in flavors like peach and water chestnut.
So what makes stretchy yogurt so…stretchy? No secret dairy magic here—it’s usually just a starch, like tapioca, rice, or potato, that gives it that elastic, almost slime-like texture. Shops don’t widely share their recipes, but the good news is you can recreate it at home.
Creator Kat Lieu (@subtleasian.baking) shows how to make your own stretchy yogurt in under five minutes using only three ingredients: Greek yogurt, milk, and tapioca starch. Combine half a cup of Greek yogurt, half a cup of milk, and a quarter cup of tapioca starch in a microwave-safe bowl, cover with plastic wrap (poke a few holes), and microwave for two minutes. Stir until smooth, then top with fruit, black sesame, or kinako for a chewy, nutty twist.
Stretchy yogurt is sticky, bouncy, and seriously fun to eat. Whether you’re stretching it, spooning it, or topping it with fruit, this TikTok trend is as satisfying as it looks—and just as delicious.
