What does it take to break a world record? For Blue Stripes, the sustainability-focused chocolate brand, it took 416 square meters (or about 4,478 square feet) of ambition, a passion for cacao, and the creative genius of celebrity chef Nick DiGiovanni. Together, they crafted the world’s largest chocolate bar ever, an accomplishment so massive it outshined the previous record of 383.24 square meters by a wide margin.
Just how big is this chocolate bar? Imagine five pickleball courts lined up next to each other—then add a little extra. It’s that gargantuan. Unveiled in Ecuador, where Blue Stripes is based, the record-breaking confection took 12 hours to assemble. The team faced a deliciously tricky challenge: connecting hundreds of 20cm x 25cm chocolate squares with “chocolate glue,” a melted, edible adhesive. The result? A seamless slab of chocolate that’s as impressive in scale as it is in purpose.
But this record wasn’t just about size. Blue Stripes had a bigger message to share. The creation of this chocolate bar was a bold move to raise awareness about the global cacao crisis. Over 60% of the world’s cacao comes from Ivory Coast and Ghana, two nations grappling with poor harvests for three consecutive years—soon to be four. By using the whole cacao fruit and upcycling what would normally be discarded, Blue Stripes is championing a more sustainable future for chocolate.
“This was about more than just breaking a record,” said Blue Stripes founder Oded Brenner. “It was about spotlighting the challenges in the cacao industry and showing the world how we can reimagine chocolate. By using every part of the cacao fruit, we reduce waste, bring additional value to farmers, and create something extraordinary, delicious, and healthy.”
To top it all off, this record-breaking masterpiece wasn’t destined for fame alone. DiGiovanni and the Blue Stripes team divided the bar into 100,000 pieces and donated them to local schools and community centers in Ecuador. It’s proof that the sweetest victories are the ones we share.
In an era where sustainability and creativity are celebrated, Blue Stripes’ achievement is more than a world record—it’s a reminder of the power of innovation and the importance of protecting the roots of our favorite treats. Because who wouldn’t want a future where chocolate, and the planet, thrive?
