This Food Can Be Used To Make Dynamite!

Are peanuts used to make dynamite? The answer is yes and no. To be clear, peanuts are one of many possible ingredients used to make dynamite. The rich oil that peanuts contain is extracted and used to make glycerol, which in turn can be used to make nitroglycerine, a key ingredient of dynamite. You can also make glycerol from other sources as well. Generally, glycerol is a safe liquid as long as it doesn’t undergo the nitration process. It is also used to manufacture everyday products such as soap, cream, and certain food products.

Alfred Nobel invented dynamite in 1866. Dynamite was created using a mixture of nitroglycerin, a highly poisonous explosive liquid, or other volatile compounds such as sensitized ammonium nitrate. Prior to that, Ascanio Sobrero, a chemist studying under professor J. T. Pelouze, was the inventor of nitroglycerin. Sobrero was horrified when he learned about Nobel’s invention of dynamite as he had been badly injured during his experiments with nitroglycerin and felt it could not be harnessed. Nitroglycerine is a very explosive compound that is used to produce dynamite. This oily liquid can explode when exposed to heat, shock or flame. Today, dynamite is mainly used in the mining, quarrying, construction, and demolition industries.

That raises the question; how many peanuts would it take to make a pound of dynamite? Unfortunately, we may never know since it’s a closely guarded secret!
