Mike's Hot Honey is bound to become your new favorite spicy-sweet condiment.
According to their site, Mike's Hot Honey is "honey infused with chili peppers
for drizzling on all your favorite foods". As someone who loves all things spicy and sweet, the second I saw this product appear on my Instagram feed I knew I had to get my hands on it! I was able to find it at my local Whole Foods store.
Off the bat, I loved the packaging. The logo is simple yet stands out on the shelves. I also loved the squeeze bottle, making it extremely easy to drizzle. The lid twists off making it easy to measure for use in recipes. They also sell it in so many different forms such as on-the-go squeeze packs, mini jars, and foodservice 12 pound jugs!
The ingredients are super simple: 100% pure honey, real chili peppers and vinegar. This is a product you can feel good about feeding to your family because it contains no artificial ingredients.
Its taste is very similar to that of regular honey with the tiniest touch of spice. I would describe it as a bit more savory version of your everyday honey. It is still sweet, but the slight spiciness and vinegar touch makes it able to be used in savory recipes such as in a wing sauce or drizzled on top of a slice of pepperoni pizza. As a spice lover, I was expecting and hoping for it to be much spicier. They do sell an extra hot honey which may deliver the fiery punch that I was hoping this variety had.
Overall, I wish it was spicier, but I will definitely continue to use Mike's Hot Honey both in ways I would use regular honey, such as in tea, and in savory recipes! This is a really versatile product that can be deliciously incorporated into (almost) any dish.
